Essay on Mirabai in English

Mirabai's name comes first among the devotees of Lord Krishna. Mirabai had dedicated her entire life to Krishna devotion. Mirabai was the princess of the Medwa royal family of Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Although there is no concrete evidence of her birth, it is believed that she was born in 1448 AD. She was the only child of her father Ratan Singh. Her mother died in her childhood. After this, her grandfather Rao Duda brought her to Merta and raised her. From childhood, the presence of Krishna was so deeply settled in Mirabai's mind that she considered Krishna as her husband. She remained absorbed in his devotion throughout her life. She did not want to get married but against her wishes, she was married to Prince Bhojraj.

How did Mirabai become a devotee of Krishna?

It is said that when Mirabai was young, a rich man's wedding procession came to her neighborhood. All the women were standing on the roof to see the procession. Then Mirabai also reached the roof. Then she asked her mother who her groom was, then her mother pointed to the idol of Lord Krishna and said This is your husband. This thing got stuck in Mirabai's mind, and from then on, she started seeing him as her husband. And always remained immersed in his devotion.

Mirabai is immersed in devotion to Lord Krishna

After singing the song of the death of her husband, Mirabai's devotion increased day by day. She would go to the temple and dance so long that she would keep dancing till the bell in front of the idol of Shri Krishna. Mirabai's devotion to Krishna was not liked by her in-laws at all, so many attempts were made to kill her. Sometimes by giving poison and sometimes by releasing a snake, but Shri Krishna's infinite grace was such that nothing happened to her.

After some time she went to Vrindavan and then from there to Dwarka. She started living with sages and saints and became absorbed in Krishna Bhakti. It is said about Mirabai's death that she worshipped Krishna all her life and even in the end she merged into the idol of Krishna while doing devotion.
